Shutter count

How to check the shutter count on the Sony A6400

The shutter count is the number of photos a camera has taken. It's the first thing to check before you buy a used Sony A6400, and worth adding to your listing when you sell one.

How to check the shutter count on the Sony A6400

  1. Take one photo with the camera (ideally in ARW format) and copy the original file to your computer or phone.
  2. Open the Reti shutter counter and add the file.
  3. You'll see the shutter count, the shutter wear rating and whether the camera has the latest firmware.

Some newer Sony models only store the count on a photo taken with the mechanical shutter, so turn off the electronic shutter before the test.
