Classic vintage lenses
Jupiter-9 85mm f/2
A Soviet copy of the Zeiss Sonnar 85/2. A classic portrait lens, cheap today and popular on mirrorless cameras.

What the image looks like
A soft, painterly look at f/2 and very round out-of-focus highlights thanks to many aperture blades. Sharp from f/4.
Aperture on an adapter
Two rings (preset), works on any plain adapter.
What to check before you buy
- Check which version you have: M42 for SLRs or M39 for Zorki/FED rangefinders. Each needs a different adapter on mirrorless.
- The M39 rangefinder version is often out of adjustment after being taken apart: check infinity focus.
- Haze, fungus and play in the barrel.
- A stiff focus ring (old grease).
On APS-C it frames like about 130mm on full frame: great for portraits from a distance.
Which adapter?
Pick your camera in the checker: it works out the adapter thickness and framing, and suggests menu settings.
